Researchers at Chulabhorn Research Institute Presented with 3 Awards at the 2025 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2025) in Republic of Korea
The researcher team from the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) was honored with the international invention and innovation awards at the “2025 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2025)”, held from December 3-6, 2025 at COEX Convention & Exhibition Center, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Over 1,000 research works from over 40 countries were submitted for competition and exhibition. The researchers at the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, CRI, presented the research entitled “BioDent Gel: Injectable Composite Hydrogels for Dental Tissue Engineering” and were honored with 3 international awards as follows:
The research on “BioDent Gel: Injectable Composite Hydrogels for Dental Tissue Engineering” was conducted by Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, CRI, comprising Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supanna Techasakul, Director, Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, Dr. Piyachat Chuysinuan, Ms. Thanyaluck Thanyacharoen, Ms. Punyaporn Thongprasert, and their research team. The team conducted study and developed research by inventing and developing new medical devices for bone grafts with natural materials, such as hydroxyapatite from egg shells, fibroin fiber from cocoon scraps, and alginate from brown algae. These biomaterials are safe, degradable, environmentally friendly, and different from general bone grafting materials which are expensive and not flexible for usage.
The BioDent Gel that was invented, researched, and developed possesses an outstanding ability to be thoroughly injected into the alveolar bone, with flexibility and adjustment in various shapes according to lesions, inducing the creation of more efficient bone cells, and effectively reducing the complexities in treatment process. The research promotes the innovation in dental materials by increasing the value of waste through safe and environmentally friendly production process. These materials also have potential for domestic production, enabling patients to have more access to alveolar bone grafts, and ultimately dental implant treatment across the board. As a result, the Thai people will be able to enjoy good dental health in the future.
The valuable awards and the presentation of the research in the “2025 Seoul International Invention Fair” organized by Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) constituted an excellent opportunity to disseminate research works by the CRI in international fora, leading to recognition of Thailand’s research potential and standard, as well as effective innovation creation and technology usage, resulting in the country’s sustainable development.
The awards mark yet another success in fulfilling the steadfast intention of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of the CRI, and implementing Her Royal Highness’s Royal Policy in driving the CRI towards successful scientific research, leading to scientific and technological advancements and development, as well as their application to elevate the people’s quality of life.
