On September 22, 2026, the Center for Biologics Research and Development (CBRD), Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), through the Fire Prevention and Suppression Committee, organized a basic firefighting training course and fire evacuation drill for the 2026 Fiscal Year. The training was held for personnel working within the CBRD building to enhance their knowledge and skills in fire prevention and suppression in the event of an emergency.

The CBRD of the CRI operates comprehensive research, development, and production of biologics and biopharmaceuticals, spanning from the laboratory scale to the pilot scale. Because the manufacturing process must operate continuously around the clock, the 24-hour presence of relevant personnel and researchers is required.   Furthermore, the operations involve complex production equipment and support systems, alongside the potential use of materials and chemicals that carry a high risk of catching fire and spreading easily. Given these operational characteristics, preparing for life safety and asset protection is a critical mission that must be carried out continuously.

For this training session, General Charn Boonpraserth, Vice President for Special Activities of the CRI and Chairman of the Fire Prevention and Suppression Committee, presided over the opening ceremony at Meeting Room 1, CRI Convention Center. More than 100 personnel working within the CBRD, including security officers, and contracted cleaning staff, attended the training. The CRI was honored to have experts from Latyao Fire and Rescue Station, under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Fire and Rescue Department, share their knowledge and experience. The station also kindly provided a fire truck and rescue equipment for the practical drill.

The training format was divided into two sessions. The morning session consisted of a theoretical lecture at Meeting Room 1, CRI Convention Center, covering topics such as the causes of fire, classifications of fire, and how to select and use chemical fire extinguishers. Participants also learned survival skills during a fire incident, fire prevention and suppression plans, evacuation protocols, as well as basic principles of search, rescue, and evacuation of victims.

In the afternoon, the training transitioned into a practical session held at the CBRD building. This session featured simulated emergency scenarios, where participants practiced operating fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment, as well as carrying out a fire evacuation drill. This hands-on training aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge, understanding, and skills to respond to fire emergencies correctly and safely.

This fire prevention and suppression preparedness initiative serves as a crucial element in enhancing workplace safety. It helps ensure that personnel possess the knowledge and understanding required to handle emergencies systematically, while reducing potential loss and damage. Ultimately, this allows the Center for Biologics Research and Development of the Chulabhorn Research Institute to continuously pursue its mission in researching, developing, and manufacturing biopharmaceuticals, thereby contributing to expanding access to highly effective medicines for the Thai people.
