Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Conducts Study Visit to Observe the Research and Development of Herbs at Chulabhorn Research Institute
On April 28, 2026, Dr. Pakakrong Kwankhao, Pharm.D., Herbal Medicine Production Manager, Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, led a delegation of personnel at the Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital and the Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda Sirisobha Phannavadi on a study visit to observe the research and development of herbs at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Analytical Section, Food and Drug Quality Unit (FDQ), Office of Research, Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jutamaad Satayavivad, Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Director, Laboratory of Pharmacology of the CRI, welcomed the delegation then held discussions with the visiting team, providing advice on the research of herbs, particularly research on Fa Thalai Chon, exchanging experience, as well as recommending research directions for herbs to meet quality system and safety standards. On this occasion, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the modern laboratory of the Analytical Section, which is certified to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard, for the testing of heavy metals in food and active ingredients in the Fa Thalai Chon products, as well as to observe dissolution testing of the Fa Thalai Chon capsules at the Laboratory of Pharmacology.
This study visit and exchange of knowledge constituted a collaborative activity between the CRI and the external agency with widely recognized expertise in herbal medicine, with the aim of forging a research cooperation network and promoting the potential advancement of Thai herbs towards international production standards, recognized both domestically and internationally. The collaboration also aims to promote the development of effective and safe health products and medicines from herbs, enhance their recognition, and build confidence among the medical community and the general public in the use of Thai herbs, to ensure the country’s pharmaceutical security and self-reliance, and reduce dependance on imported medicines that may face risks of future shortage.
