On August 22, 2026, at the Princess Chulabhorn International Convention Centre (Nonsi Room), Nong Kae Subdistrict, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), Mr. Surapit Kirtiputra, Vice President for International Relations of the CRI, presided over the opening ceremony of the Integrated Training Project for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on Rabies Management in Communities. This initiative is a strategic driver of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-Free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. The program aims to promote cooperation among relevant agencies and sectors under the “One Health” concept, which emphasizes the integration of human, animal, and environmental health knowledge and operations. This approach seeks to enhance the efficiency of rabies surveillance, prevention, and control, while also promoting healthcare knowledge and skills to ensure public safety. Since rabies is a fatal zoonotic infectious disease, knowledge, understanding, and active participation from all sectors are essential for its prevention and control.
Approximately 270 participants attended the training, comprising livestock officers, teachers, village health volunteers (VHVs), and public health officials from local administrative organizations within Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The program featured both theoretical and practical sessions, including academic lectures on the progress and cooperative efforts under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-Free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. Topics also covered regulations and laws regarding stray dog management, criteria for evaluating rabies-free zones, and the development of short-term training curricula for schools and communities.
Additionally, participants received practical training on utilizing applications for rabies prevention in schools and communities, alongside workshops across four learning stations, namely: laws regarding the prevention of animal cruelty and the provision of animal welfare through the use of the EDURA IT system; basic first aid for dog or cat bites; learning about rabies prevention through quiz games; and assessing a community’s readiness to become a rabies-free zone.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Province is one of the primary target areas for rabies prevention and control operations under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-Free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. In the 2026 fiscal year, a total of 143,269 rabies vaccines have been administered, and 10,348 dogs and cats have been sterilized. Furthermore, several animal shelters in the area have played a crucial role in systematically caring for a large number of stray dogs and cats. These operations help strengthen the capacity of local personnel and networks while building knowledge and awareness within the community. Ultimately, this is expected to lead to highly efficient rabies surveillance, prevention, and control, thus promoting the quality of life and safety of the public and ensuring they remain sustainably free from rabies.
