Chulabhorn Research Institute Holds Blessing Ceremony and Buddhist Rites on the Auspicious Occasion of the President’ s Birthday Anniversary in 2026
On July 3, 2026, the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) held a blessing ceremony and Buddhist rites on the auspicious occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of the CRI, who turned 69 on July 4, 2026. The ceremony took place at the CRI Convention Center. Somdet Phra Maha Wachiramuniwong (Boonruang Punyachoto), Advisor to the Ecclesiastical Governor of Region 8 (Dhammayut) and Abbot of Wat Phra Si Mahathat Wora Maha Viharn, presided over the Buddhist rites, and General Charn Boonpraserth, Vice President for Special Activities of the CRI, served as Chairman of the ceremony. Executives and personnel of the CRI and other agencies under the Royal Initiatives of Her Royal Highness, as well as representatives of the government agencies and the private sector, attended the ceremony.
Before the commencement of the ceremony, General Charn Boonpraserth placed a wreath in front of the statue of His Majesty King Mongkut (Rama IV), recognized as Thailand’s “Father of Sciences”, at the CRI Convention Center, as a gesture of loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty King Mongkut who laid the scientific and technological foundation of the nation, a crucial inception for the development of Thailand’s science.
The Chairman then led the CRI executives and personnel in paying respect to the Shrines of the Spirit and the Household God in front of the CRI, for auspiciousness and protection of the CRI and its personnel.
Afterwards, the Chairman, together with the attendees, participated in a blessing ceremony and Buddhist rites as a merit-making act for the President of the CRI on the auspicious occasion of Her Birthday Anniversary on July 4, 2026. They expressed their loyalty and recognition of Her Royal Highness’s immeasurable and tireless contributions to the benefit of the nation and the happiness of the Thai people. The ceremony was held in the Convention Hall at the CRI Convention Center.
For over three decades, since the establishment of the CRI in 1987, Her Royal Highness has unwaveringly dedicated Herself to promoting and developing research in medical sciences and innovation through integrated research projects, leading to sustainable drug security. This is clearly demonstrated by the success of the development of the “trastuzumab” biosimilar, a targeted therapy for cancer, under the name “HERDARA”, graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Herself. HERDARA was granted a drug registration license by the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health, in 2025. It is also the first monoclonal antibody biologic developed and produced by a team of Thai researchers under the leadership of the President of the CRI. This is truly a major step toward advancing the potential of the nation’s medical sciences and public health standards.
