By Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, Vice President for International Relations, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Presides over the Opening Ceremony of the Integrated Training Project for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on Rabies Management in Communities in Sakon Nakhon Province
On February 21, 2026 at Imperial Sakon Hotel, Mueang Sakon Nakhon District, Sakon Nakhon Province, by Royal Command Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), Mr. Chalit Manityakul, Vice President for International Relations of the CRI, presided over the opening ceremony of the Integrated Training Project for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on Rabies Management in Communities, under the strategy of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. Rabies is a life-threatening contagious disease. The drive to concretely and continuously prevent and control rabies under the cooperation of networks of relevant agencies is therefore a crucial mechanism to strengthen communities, leading to the creation of a truly safe and rabies-free society.
The Integrated Training Project was held through the cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, with relevant agencies to address the issues of rabies-related deaths, mostly due to the lack of awareness of the seriousness of the disease and the lack of timely treatment or vaccination against rabies after being bitten, scratched, or licked at the wound by infected animals. Therefore, this Training aimed at promoting knowledge, understanding, and skills through a team of veterinary, technology, and IT experts. The interesting educational activities organized included academic lectures on various topics, such as progress and cooperation among agencies under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, laws and regulations relevant to the management of stray dogs by local authorities, criteria to assess the rabies-free areas, etc. Furthermore, a workshop was held on the use of EDURA application, an IT system that provides knowledge on the prevention of rabies and relevant laws, leading to proper understanding and correct application methods for self-care and care of the pets. Approximately 300 participants attended the Training, comprising livestock officials, public health officials, health education teachers, and village health volunteers.
Sakon Nakhon Province, which has been selected as a target area for this Training has the total dog and cat population of over 204,500. In the fiscal year 2025, the total of 199,798 doses of vaccination against rabies were administered and 1,250 dogs and cats were sterilized. Training was conducted with 537 livestock volunteers and activities were organized to disseminate knowledge on rabies in 18 schools. The Project constitutes a proactive operation to control and mitigate risks of the spread of rabies, at the same time continuously promote safety and elevate quality of life of local residents.
The Integrated Training Project for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on Rabies Management in Communities under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies” reflects the deepest compassion and concern of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana for the Thai people as well as pets and stray and homeless animals, aiming to make all lives safe from rabies in a sustainable manner.
