On August 14, 2025 at 2.45 p.m., Mr. Surapit Kirtiputra, Vice President for International Relations, Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mayuree Fuangthong, Research Scientist II, Dr. Chalermchai Artpradit, Research Scientist I, a team of researchers at the CRT, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Soranat Raibhu, Engineering High Level Expert, welcomed Ms. Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri, Miss World 2025, on the occasion of her visit to the Center for Biologics Research and Development (CBRD), CRI.  The purpose of her visit was to learn about the operations of the CBRD and its progress in R&D and production of drugs for cancer treatment. The CBRD is fully equipped with infrastructure, technology, and operational systems and is the first center in Thailand to successfully support the comprehensive development process of biologics.

The Center for Biologics Research and Development (CBRD) was established to fulfill the vision of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the CRI. For over two decades, Her Royal Highness laid the foundation of an “Ecosystem for biologics development”, encompassing R&D laboratories and biologics production facilities and a laboratory animal center for initial efficacy and safety testing.  The CBRD has also fostered cooperation with the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute, the Chulabhorn Hospital, and networks of international researchers to implement Her Royal Highness’s policies to the best of their ability, leading to the successful development of a “trastuzumab” biosimilar, a targeted therapy for cancer, which was granted a drug registration license by the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health, under the name HERDARA, graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Herself.  It is Thailand’s first monoclonal antibody biologic, with R&D conducted entirely by Thai researchers – from initial research to final production – ensuring that all Thai people have access to high-quality and affordable medicines, under the leadership of the Princess who champions drug security for the nation.

During this visit to the CBRD, Ms. Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri, Miss World 2025, represented the socially driven projects “Beauty with a Purpose” and “Opal for Her” which focus on the use of beauty and fame to perform good deeds for society and the world.  These projects also emphasize the role in the promotion of social and charity activities, especially the promotion of public health and women’s health, such as raising awareness of breast cancer, which continues to cause a large number of cases and deaths every year. Thai people are also urged to recognize the importance of regular medical check-ups.  Miss “Opal” and her initiatives also aim to act as spokesperson to campaign for health, committed to supporting scientific research to continually promote the people’s health and quality of life.  She admires the potential of Thai researchers working under Her Royal Highness’s initiatives to advance science and public health in Thailand.

She also conveyed her deep gratitude for the benevolence of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, whose ability and visionary leadership in addressing people’s health issues led to the establishment of the Center for Biologics Research and Development, aiming to enable all the Thai people to have equitable access to effective medicines across the board.
