Chulabhorn Research Institute Holds Blessing Ceremony and Buddhist Rites on the Auspicious Occasion of the President’s Birthday Anniversary in 2025
On July 2, 2025, the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) organized a blessing ceremony and Buddhist rites on the auspicious occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the CRI, who turned 68 on July 4, 2025. The event took place at the Chulabhorn Research Institute Convention Center.
The ceremony commenced with General Charn Boonpraserth, Vice President for Special Activities of the CRI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Ceremony, placing a wreath in front of the statue of His Majesty King Mongkut (Rama IV), recognized as Thailand’s “Father of Sciences”.
Afterwards, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul, Vice President for Administration, Building and Grounds of the CRI, along with executives and personnel of the CRI and other agencies under the Royal Initiatives of Her Royal Highness, presided over the formal proceedings. The ceremony featured paying respects to the Shrines of the Spirit and the Household God, signing a book of blessings, humbly offering well wishes, and performing Buddhist rites to mark the auspicious occasion of the President of the CRI’s Birthday Anniversary. The event was also a gesture of loyalty and gratitude – a tribute to Her Royal Highness’s unwavering dedication to the great benefit of the Thai people and the country, especially in the fields of research development, scientific and technological works, medicine, and public health, to enhance the good health of people and animals nationwide, as well as development and production of high-caliber personnel in science and technology to become key drivers in the country’s path toward sustainable development, accomplishing Her Royal Highness’s intention.
With Her Royal Highness’s visionary leadership, the CRI President has consistently demonstrated deep concern for public health and hygiene, especially the lack of access to effective medications. In Her capacity as scientist in the fields of chemistry and biomedical science, Her Royal Highness led a team of the CRI researchers in the successful research and development and production of a “trastuzumab” biosimilar, named HERDARA – a name graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Herself. HERDARA has been granted official drug registration for the treatment of breast cancer and other types of cancer. It is the first innovative biologic drug in Thailand to be fully developed by a team of Thai researchers – from initial research to final production. At present, this breakthrough extends from production to practical medical application. Under Her Royal Highness’s leadership, the Thai people can now have easier access to the drug for cancer treatment as it is produced domestically. This in turn lays a strong foundation for the nation’s self-reliance in pharmaceuticals and public health in a secure and sustainable manner.
