On July 15, 2023, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, Dr. Thakur Phanit, Vice President for International Relations, Chulahorn Research Institute, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, at Sukhothai Treasure Resort & Spa, Mueang Sukhothai District, Sukhothai Province. Under this Training Project, organized through the cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, activities comprising sharing of knowledge, including theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, have been carried out in various provinces across Thailand. Her Royal Highness’s compassion also extends to sick stray and homeless animals, ensuring that they receive necessary healthcare across the board. At the same time, Her Royal Highness recognizes the need to control the stray animal population, without impacting the safety of communities, and in order to prevent the spread of rabies, a life-threatening zoonotic disease. Dr. Kwanrawee Sirikanchana, Research Scientist II at the Laboratory of Biotechnology, Chulabhorn Research Institute, was nominated to be awarded the prestigious Huw Taylor Prize 2023 from the International Water Association (IWA), United Kingdom. The 2023 IWA-HRM Huw Taylor Prize recognizes researchers for their Exceptional Scientific Contribution to Provide Water and Sanitation Solutions in Emergency and Developing Settings. The award presentation ceremony was held at the 21st International Symposium on Health-related Water Microbiology (WaterMicro 23), organized by the Health-related Water Microbiology (HRWM) Specialist Group, IWA, from June 4 – 9, 2023, in Darwin, Australia. The Prize was established to honor Professor Huw Taylor of the University of Brighton, United Kingdom, for his dedication to providing clean water and sanitation in emergency and developing areas. On March 24, 2023 at 08:27 a.m., Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol performed Royal Duties with the Chulabhorn Veterinary Volunteer Unit under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, at Kasetsart University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Tippimarn, in Pongtalong Subdistrict, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Her Royal Highness’s compassion extends to sick animals, ensuring they receive treatment and relief from suffering, which reduces their death rate from serious diseases, as well as eases the burden on pet owners. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness administered anesthesia to five dogs to ensure that they did not experience pain during sterilization procedures, including Her Royal Highness’s own pet, a dog named Khun Komane, which underwent surgery on a lump on its tail, a resident’s pet dog that had surgery on its right hip bone, and three dogs from the “Nakhon Chai Burin” shelter for homeless dogs, each undergoing surgery to remove lumps on the left breast, right chest, and head, respectively.
